Joshu Osmanski: Three Tips for a Better Golf Swing

Joshu Osmanski knows as well as anyone that golf is an extremely specialized skill sport. Every swing, every drive, every tiny action in the process of any of these movements can push a golf score north or south. Osmanski wouldn’t characterize himself as a natural-born golfer—it took him years to master the proper stroke for every drive, approach shot, wedge, or putt until he gained confidence.

Here are three tips to help you improve your stroke:

  • Keep your hands low. Joshu Osmanski knows that limiting the height of your follow-through reduces the height of your shots. You want to keep your ball flight low on your drives to maximize distance off the tee.
  • Keep your back forearm parallel to your spine. That is, at the top of your swing, make sure your non-dominant arm is straight against your side. This will ensure better ball striking and improve your accuracy at all distances.
  • Use your body weight to generate power. When you start trying to bash the ball with your arms, many problems can occur. First, you won’t be very accurate with your arms flying open ahead of your body. And second, you won’t generate as much power as when you throw your body weight behind the swing.

Joshu Osmanski learned over time how to improve his ball striking and follow-through on all of his swings, using all of his clubs. He has molded his game over the years at the golf course and has become a fierce competitor for all who face him.
